Details:

CONDITION: Item is in excellent condition with no visible damage. DESCRIPTION: Antique Anglo-Indian sandalwood, ivory and sadeli oblong box, Bombay Presidency. Incised with panels of scrolling foliage framed within concentric geometric bands. Made at the time when the East India Company were operating out of what is now Mumbai. This highly-wrought micro-mosaic inlay using ivory, metal, etc..., was known as sadeli work. Sadeli work is a technique thought to have been brought over from Persia, probably with the Moghal empire. Circa mid 19th century.
